Fantastic Fest 2025 Review: The Creep Tapes Season 2 (3 Episodes)

Co-creators Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice have made quite a name for themselves with Creep and Creep 2. Last year, they came to Fantastic Fest to premiere three episodes of The Creep Tapes season 1. This year, The Creep Tapes has returned to show three all new episodes from the upcoming second season. This hit Shudder original series continues showing the darkly comedic, violent escapades of a nameless serial killer and his wolfish alter ego, Peachfuzz.

The first episode Fantastic Fest audiences got to see was “Joseph.” This one begins with a setup fans will recognize from the first Creep film. Yet the man on screen isn’t everyone’s favorite murderer. Instead, it’s a copycat played by David Dastmalchian (Late Night With the Devil, The Suicide Squad). Dastmalchian is wonderful in this role, balancing murderous intentions with a fanboy energy. Not to mention, he and Duplass have brilliant on-screen chemistry as Duplass plays with this wannabe. The episode is a great introduction to The Creep Tapes season 2, delivering a spin on the familiar with plenty of jaw-dropping surprises.

Up next is an episode titled “Mark.” This episode might be the single funniest episode of The Creep Tapes ever made. Guest starring Robert Longstreet (Doctor Sleep, Midnight Mass) as the titular character, the episode throws Mark in a recreation of Saw with Duplass’s character. Unfortunately, the fun is ruined because the victim doesn’t quite have the brain power to solve the puzzles. Duplass’s frustration is palpable and makes for some hilarious interactions between these two very different men. Along with plenty of grizzly practical effects, this episode was filmed in the actual location from the first Saw film, adding great production value to the episode.

Finally, the last episode shown at Fantastic Fest was “Wes.” In this episode, audiences see a more polished version of our killer. He cleaned up to pretend to be a realtor who has hired a camera man to film a pilot for a new house-flipping show. Unfortunately, the pair never even make it to what was surely a murder house before plans go awry. This episode is incredibly tense, leaning into the terror more than the other two episodes. However, it still delivers plenty of laughs, especially when a couple of unwanted witnesses come upon the scene. Duplass really hams it up in the climax of “Wes,” showing audiences this killer definitely gets by more on luck than anything else.

The Creep Tapes season 2 has all the insanity, laughter, and bloodshed Creep fans expect and more. Duplass and Brice continue their partnership by taking the character we know and love to thrilling new places. While Fantastic Fest only showed three of the six episodes for the season, they are certainly memorable. Fans will love the combination of familiar sights and hilarious new hijinks. In fact, Shudder and the team are so convinced fans will love this new season that The Creep Tapes has already been renewed for a third season. The Creep Tapes season 2 hits streaming exclusively on Shudder beginning November 14th.
